Jackson store clerk beaten & shot

Jackson, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police are searching for the people responsible for beating and shooting a store clerk Sunday night.

Police tell us it happened at the P&R Food Mart on Medgar Evers Boulevard around 9 p.m.

When officers got to the scene, the victim told them he’d been assaulted by a group of people outside the store and that during the attack, he’d been shot.

Police say the group of people beat the man before any shots were fired.

Jackson Police tell us after the suspects assaulted the clerk, the store owner ran outside the store and fired a shot into the air in defense of the victim.

As the suspects were taking off, in what appears to be a 90s model Honda Accord, one of those people fired a shot, hitting the store clerk in the leg.

The clerk was taken to a local hospital to be treated. He’s expected to be okay.

Police are still looking for the people responsible in this incident.
