Jason Wells wins Republican mayoral primary in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jason Wells won the Republican mayoral primary in Jackson. He will face incumbent Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba in the June 8 general election.

Wells received 291 votes, while his opponent Ponto Downing received 105.

After winning the primary election, Wells proposed to his girlfriend.

He said his focus is reducing crime in the city.
