Jerrion Ealy ready for final playoff ride with Jackson Prep

FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) — Jerrion Ealy could hear his name called in the first round of the MLB Draft next month but right now his main focus is trying to lead Jackson Prep to a third straight state title.

“Sometimes when I don’t have anything better to do I think about it (MLB Draft) a little bit,” Ealy said. “But I try not to focus on that. I try to focus on the high school season right now and going out and winning a third straight championship for the Prep Patriots.”

Ealy and the Patriots are red hot heading into their first playoff game this week. They’ve ripped off twelve straight wins.

“Biggest thing with this team is it’s not just one guy,” head coach Brent Heavener said. “We’ve got great leaders…when you come out and you can have a different guy win a game for you every night…I think that’s very important.”

Winning is fun, and the Patriots know how to have a lot of fun. No one embodies that more than Ealy.

“It’s (having fun) is the most important part, if anything,” Ealy said. “If you’re not having fun then why are you doing it? That’s the way I look at it. The day I stop having fun is the day I stop playing.”
