JPD gives back to families in shopping spree

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Christmas came a little early for six families, thanks to the Jackson Police Department. The officers hosted a “Shop with a Cop” event at the Walmart off of Highway 18.

Six families were chosen to take part in the shopping spree. “I feel happy. I plan on getting a lunch box, a toy car, and a race track,” said Bryson Jones.

This is the first year JPD hosted the shopping event. Paul Hobson, president of the Jackson Police Officers Association, said each family was chosen by their needs.

“We understand that during this time, it could be difficult. That’s why we wanted to provide these services,” explained Hobson. “What we did was we reached out to various precincts and had them identify families that could benefit from the resources. That’s how we ended up here today.”

The families were given and undisclosed amount of money raised by JPD. Mercedes Carter has four children. She said seeing the excitement from her kids made her all the more happy this Christmas.
