JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson Police have identified the man who was killed in Wednesday night’s O’Reilly Auto Parts shooting.

Police said Broderick Smith, who was the manager, died on the scene.

His family tells us he graduated Belhaven University as a business major. They said Smith was thinking about going back to school to work towards a Ph.D. Smith transferred from a Louisiana store about six months ago. They said he has talked to them before about other robberies in the area and he was uncomfortable working in that environment.

JPD tells us that two men came into the store that’s located on Livingston Road with guns drawn around 7:30 p.m.

The manager was forced to the back to open a safe and when he couldn’t he was shot multiple times.

“These two individuals who committed this particular crime represent some very dangerous suspects,” said Chief Lee Vance. “The reason why is they have shown a willingness and or desire to shoot people. We believe they may be connected to at least two other armed robberies that were committed in a similar fashion.”

Police have a vague description suspects. They were last seen running North on Livingston Road after the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting, contact police at 601-355-TIPS.
