JPD: Kidnapping suspect taken into custody


UPDATE: Police are also charging Marcus Baker with an additional count of kidnapping.

JPD said this is from an incident that happened on September 6 where a woman was kidnapped while she was jogging in the Downtown area.

Commander Tyree Jones said they went to the Dollar General on Highway 80 to respond to the incident that day. A 27-year-old said a man approached her with a knife while she was jogging on N. West Street. The man was wearing dark colored clothing with a lime green reflector vest. She told officers he forced her into a car.

She was able to escape near the Dollar General.

Investigators determined that Baker was the suspect in this crime. He will be charged with an additional count of kidnapping.

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson Police said a man wanted for kidnapping is in custody.

Officers said U.S. Marshals arrested 32-year-old Marcus Baker Monday. They did not disclose the location.

Baker also goes Marcus Butler.

Police said they went to McCluer Road around Thursday to respond to the situation. A 19-year-old girl was in the roadway begging for help, they said. Police said she was kidnapped at gunpoint on Monday around 9 p.m. while she was walking in the Capital Street area.

The suspect was in a gray Ford Crown Victoria. We’re told he approached the woman with a gun and made her get into his car. He drove the victim to a home on McCluer Road where she was held against her will, police said.

No other details about Baker’s arrest have been released at this time.
