LAUREL, Miss. (WHLT) – The Laurel School District said the fire that happened at the Nora Davis campus on Sunday is being investigated as arson.
An investigation on Monday showed extensive vandalism throughout the buildings, including busted windows and doors, expelled fire extinguishers, smashed equipment and broken bathroom mirrors.
School leaders said salvageable items from the December 2019 tornado were stored at the campus’ gymnasium. It appears boxes of books were dumped and set on fire.
The Laurel Fire Department and Laurel Police Department are in charge of the investigation. Additionally, the state fire marshal will be called in to aid in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the LPD at 601-399-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 601-428-STOP (7867).
