15-year-old De’Anthony Bunch laid to rest, school retires jersey

Local News

The young Clinton student, who passed away in last weekend’s I-55 crash, was laid to rest Saturday afternoon.

Nearly 1,300 people turned out at New Horizon church in Jackson to say goodbye to 15-year-old De’Anthony Bunch, who’s life was tragically cut so short last Saturday.

Those who knew and loved him, called him Duke. They also say his smile could light a room.

Family, friends and classmates wore his favorite color to his funeral; blue.

Letters from the Mississippi Lt. Governor and other city leaders were delivered to his family and read aloud.

School officials recalled the type of young man he was.

“He was a great young man, a great student and we will definitely miss him, but we will cherish and celebrate his memory,” his school principal said.

De’Anthony was one of five teenagers inside the car that crashed.

Another boy who was in the vehicle has also since passed away.

School officials said De’Anthony’s basketball jersey number will now be retired.
