54th anniversary of civil rights “Bloody Sunday” remembered

Events are underway in Selma, Alabama to mark the 54th anniversary of a day called  “Bloody Sunday” in 1965, on which black civil rights activists tried to cross the Edmund Pett US bridge into the state capitol.

State troopers attacked the demonstrators, in an attempt to stop them from having voting rights.
