Bobby Rush stops by Tougaloo College to speak to students about the importance of blues music.
Rush was born in Louisiana and grew up in Mississippi. He says every genre of music starts with blues and gospel.
The famous blues singer spoke to the students of Tougaloo College, about his life growing up in the south.
Bobby Rush told the students, “Y’all probably don’t like no blues. Y’all probably like Rap. But the blues is the root of all music. Blues and Gospel. If you don’t like the Blues, you probably don’t like your mama.”
The 85-year-old has recorded 374 songs and counting.
According to Rush, he owns the masters to more than 90 percent of his music.
He says it is important to teach the youth about the importance of hard work and ownership.
Bobby Rush plans to visit many college campuses in order to get his message across.
