YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Yazoo County.

According to MHP, the incident happened just after 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30 on Highway 16 east near Vaughan Road.

Investigators said a 2009 Ford Focus, driven by 37-year-old Shirley Williams, of Canton, was traveling westbound when the vehicle hit 27-year-old Robert Hamil, of Canton.

Troopers said Hamil was standing in the roadway when he was hit. He died at the scene. This crash remains under investigation by MHP.

Hamil is the son of the owner of Mama Hamil’s restaurant in Madison. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

“Show love to people because life is too short. Robert touched so many lives and had a great impact on everyone he encountered. He had such a big heart, traveling to help storm victims right after tornadoes destroyed Rolling Fork. He just enjoyed helping people. I would never believe my son would be gone. I’m thankful for the prayer and abundance of love we’ve received during this time,” said Bob Hamil, Robert’s father.

Robert is survived by his wife and two children. His funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4 at Ridgeland Baptist Church.

Mama Hamil’s will be closed on Monday.
