Cold weather shelters are open in Jackson

With temperatures expected to get below freezing the next two days, cold weather shelters in Jackson are open for people in need.

The director of the Opportunity Center, Christie Burnett says, “We’ve had clients that have been diabetic and have lost limbs because of being outside.obviously, you can get into all sorts of trouble from being outside. So it’s just really important to have a safe place where people can feel protected.”

The Opportunity Center can serve up to three thousand people. 

Below is a list of the shelters that are going to be open.

  • Billy Brumfield’s House for Men
  • Matt’s House for Women and Children 
  • Gateway Rescue Mission
  • Salvation Army and Opportunity Center
