Community mourns the loss of Magee firefighter

Local News

The town of Magee prepares to lay to rest fallen firefighter Dustin Grubbs.

He was killed en route to a call Saturday when his vehicle left the roadway and overturned.

Dale Berry, Mayor of Magee, says he was devastated when he heard the news.

“He was doing his job just like a policeman, and I tell our policeman, Magee PD, I say y’all be careful every day… you don’t know, it may be your last day, and I pray for y’all everyday.”

Fire Chief Lane Steele said Grubbs will always be remembered for his hard work and dedication to the community.

“You can count on him being here, and he would be the very first few that arrive at the station…If he heard the call and he can come, he would be here, and he would give everything he had to help. He’s a wonderful person.”

Visitation for Grubbs has been set for Tuesday, November 6 from 5-8 p.m. at Tutor Funeral Home.

His funeral will be Wednesday, November 7 at 1 p.m. with a candlelight vigil beginning at 7 p.m. in front of the Magee Fire Department.
