Mississippi legislators are in…. and on Day Two, Democrats are outlining their priorities.
Dems may be in the minority, but they are excited about upcoming proposals they’ve been trying for years to pass.
Some of the issues which might be considered include; criminal justice reform, medicaid expansion, teacher and state worker pay raises
House Minority Leader David Baria says it is all good news.
“Of course these issues are issues that legislative Democrats have been working on for a decade maybe longer and the news that the governor and other republicans leaders are interested in taking on some of these reforms is very good news to us — so if they reach across the aisle then they will find that we will reach back and we’ll work together.”
Democrats also outlined the joint caucus issues they will work on — including public education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic justice, criminal justice reform and election reforms.
