Drugs smuggled into Hinds jail, mother and son charged

A mother has been charged with sending her son drugs while in jail.

According to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, fifty-one-year-old Deborah Patterson mailed narcotics to her twenty-five-year-old son Shelby Patterson in the Hinds County Detention Center.

Records show Shelby Patterson is being held on charges of auto burglary. His mother allegedly sent Suboxone and Heroin to the jail. Deborah Patterson has been charged with Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute (Suboxone), Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Substances in a Correctional Facility, and Possession of Controlled Substance (Heroin).

In addition to auto burglary charges, Shelby Patterson now faces a charge of Conspiracy to Introduce a Controlled Substance into a Correctional Facility.

Mother and son are being held pending a court appearance.
