Extra Table provides 16,800 food boxes to combat Mississippi food shortage

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT)- Extra Table is feeding hungry neighbors, with 16,800 food boxes set to go to those who have experienced food insecurities across the state due to Covid-19

Extra Table is the partnership launched in 2009 by well-known restaurateur Robert St. John. The company says they fundraise to purchase healthy food that is delivered to pantries monthly. Since Covid, Extra Table has adopted the mantra ‘no food goes to waste on our watch’ so rescuing food and educating potential partners about how to support Extra Table in the food fight. According to Extra Table Covid-19, has effected food pantries across the nation, noting that food insecurity is at a record high.

Extra Table has never participated or supported canned food drives before but with the Extra Table BOX PROJECT, the company plans to invest in the canned food drive industry with healthy and beneficial foods that will go straight to food pantries.

Extra Table will provide participants with the easy to assemble boxes and a sheet of shopping directions. Instructing participants to take the sheet to the grocery store and fill the box with good stuff for hungry neighbors in need. The company estimates it will take $10 to fill each box. Once filled, participants are to return the boxes to the location where it was picked up and Extra Table will then pick up all packed boxes.
