One family makes it out of a burning car just before it went up in flames.

It happened off I-55 at Highland Village in Jackson Saturday.

The Arrington family had been celebrating their son Ralph’s 16th birthday.

That’s when they smelled an unfamiliar odor and decided to pull over.

Mother Stephanie Arrington said the car “started rattling and shaking and there was a little sound.”

“I pulled over because I could feel the car not running properly. So I pulled over and it started smoking and then once we got out of the car it caught on fire.”

Her son Ralph said “I was scared. I couldn’t stop shaking. I was just trying to make sure they were okay and that we got everything.”

The flames were first seen coming from the Volvo’s undercarriage. The vehicle was quickly consumed in fire. The cause of the fire is not yet know.
