Firefighters work to put out fire: Somerset Place Apartments

UPDATE: 10:45 P.M.

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV)– An apartment fire forces nearly two dozen people out of their homes.
Video shows the burned-out building at Somerset Place Apartments. The flames broke through the roof.
Division Fire Chief Cleotha Sanders Jr. says they got the fire under control within an hour of getting to East County Line Road. Eight units were affected.
The fire started around 2:00 p.m. Firefighters have listed the cause of the fire as “undetermined.” The Red Cross is helping eight families with food, clothing, and places to live temporarily.
The organization also wants to take this opportunity to remind people they will install smoke alarms in homes for free.

The Jackson Fire Department could not confirm if the apartment building that burned had working smoke alarms.

The fire is currently under investigation.

No injuries have been reported.
