JACKSON, Miss (WJTV) - Greenville football player Jeremiah Williams died today from injuries sustained during a game against Madison Central last Friday night in Greenville.
The junior defensive back broke his C1 and C4 vertebrae after making a tackle. He was airlifted to UMMC where he remained on a ventilator for the past week.
This story captured the hearts and thoughts of football players and high school students all over the state. Governor Bryant reached out to the young man's family via Twitter
Deborah and I are saddened to hear of the passing of Jeremiah. Please keep his family, friends, teammates, and community in your prayers during this difficult time. He now walks the streets of glory.
Madison Central football players will be wearing Williams number on their helmets as they play Oxford in state playoffs tonight.
