The Mississippi State Fire Academy will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new fire station.
The building will also serve as a staging area for first responders, as they travel to and from a disaster scene.
Offcials said the fire station will simulate a real world environment for Fire Academy students, to better prepare fire fighters in training.
The academy trains over 15,000 students annually.
Governor Phil Bryant, the 2019 Legislative Body and Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney allocated the funds for the $12 million project.
The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, in Pearl.
