Jackson area residents had a good time at Ineva May-Pittman Park Monday, before Christmas Eve and they say they are touched by the outpouring of gifts from two local groups.
Fraternity brothers of John Archers 7-14 and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority cooked food and played music, giving many people a better Christmas than they would have had otherwise.
“The way the world is now days, we need more love and giving back to the community, because there’s enough hate in this world as it is,” recipient Autumn Dubois said
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority volunteer Sherell Wilson said “We would like to think if we are in a situation like this, someone would head the call for us. It’s all about service. It’s all about giving back to the community.”
Jackson resident Gussie Byrd who partook of the gifts said “We got a lot of homeless people here and the homeless; they don’t have anything…”
Volunteers at the park say gifts of service to strangers is a great way to celebrate Christmas.
“Enjoy Christmas and enjoy life while you can… And always be ready to give, before you receive,” Jonathan Cottrell of John Archers 7-14 Fraternity said.
