JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police are investigating after a man was shot and killed before noon on Wednesday, July 27.

The shooting happened on Robinhood Road near State Street around 10:30 a.m. According to Deputy Police Chief Deric Hearn, the department received calls about two men firing gunshots at each other during a domestic disturbance. Neighbors in the area said they heard multiple gunshots.

Shantell Johnson, who lives in Jackson, said she’s tired of the gun violence in the city.

“This is home, you know. We are not going anywhere. I would like to see my city back to where it’s honoring thy neighbor. Treat people the way you want to be treated. We have been separated too long, and you see the shape that we live in with separation. Nobody is making progress except the funeral home and the graveyard,” said Johnson.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart identified the victim as 32-year-old Orlin Galvez.

Hearn said the other man involved in the shooting was later identified as Carlos Validia. According to Hearn, Validia was later found on Pepper Ridge Drive and taken to police headquarters.

Validia was not injured during the shootout.
