Jackson puts penalties in place for water theft

Local News

For the second day in a row, water is the topic of a hastily called press conference by Jackson city leaders.

Mayor Chokwe Lumumba’s office says the city will be putting penalties in place to deal with anyone who tampers with city water meters.

The city’s water monitoring system has been the subject of controversy for years. Just Tuesday, Jackson filed suit against Siemens. The claim is for $225 M to reimburse costs the city incurred due to what they described as shoddy work and a corrupt public contract process.

The press conference begins at 2:30 pm.
