Local officer-related deaths prompts better police education

Recent cases of deadly encounters involving local police, is calling attention to the issue of crises intervention.

The intervention education for officers comes after the deaths of Pierre Woods and Mario Clark, who’s families say both battled mental illness.

The families accuse local officers of using excessive force.

Hinds County Behavioral Health Services is working with metro area law enforcement, offering a 40-hour program to show officers more ideal ways to handle someone experiencing a mental crises.
