Man dies after stepson reportedly shoots him

Jackson Police say the fifteen-year-old who reportedly shot Cedric Smith is his stepson. 

According to police, authorities were called to the home early in the week because of a fight between Smith and his wife.

Police say according to witnesses, Smith was threatening the young man’s mother.


Update: 

A man who was shot by his girlfriend’s fifteen-year-old son has died.

According to the Hinds County Coroner, the man is 34-old Cedric Smith.

Police are investigating but say they responded to a call earlier in the week to the same address because of a fight.

No charges have been filed at this time.


A fifteen-year-old reportedly shot his mother’s boyfriend. The man is in critical condition and Jackson police are trying to figure out what happened.

According to Sgt. Roderick Holmes, the shooting happened around 3:30 Wednesday morning on Noble Street.

When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach. 

According to Sgt. Holmes, the 34-year-old victim was shot by his girlfriend’s son. The victim reportedly made threats toward the woman and tried to force his way inside the home.

Officers learned JPD was called on Tuesday because of a fight, but the man left before officers arrived.

An arrest has not been made in the case.
