JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2018 Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement Period on Wednesday, November 21, at 12:01 a.m.
The enforcement period will end on Sunday, November 25, at midnight.
MHP expects heavy traffic during the holiday, and troopers will participate in Operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort.
Troopers will patrol the highways to combat speeding, promote seatbelt usage and prevent reckless driving. Drivers are encouraged to avoid text messaging or any driver distraction that could endanger lives. Troopers said people should also have a sober designated drivers in place when necessary.
During the 2017 enforcement period, MHP investigated 163 with five fatalities. Troopers also made 46 DUI arrests on state and federal highways.
