It has been almost two years since a 14-month-old was found dead in Port Gibson.
The child’s father and stepmother are being charged with the child’s death.
27-year-old Morris Bevily and his wife 26-year-old Tkia Bevily turned themselves into police Monday morning.
Autopsy results show 14-month-old Jurayah was killed from multiple blunt force trauma to the head.
The little girl was found dead on October 22, 2017, in a crib at her father’s house.
Even though it has been nearly two years since her daughter’s death, Dedreuna Smith has never given up the fight. She says she will be at each hearing as the investigation continues.
WJTV 12’s Katey Roh spoke with the mother.
Dedreuna Smith says, “I want to be there because I want them to see me I want them to look me in my face and understand and see the pain and know why I kept fighting this long because it wasn’t right.”
The Claiborne County sheriff says a hearing will be held sometime between now and next week.
