There are several hundred people in town for the National Baptist Convention. The group is comprised of predominately African American churches from the South.

Leaders within the organization say they are offering prayers and support to the family of slain Pastor Anthony Longino.

As we first reported Sunday, the 63-year-old minister was murdered while opening the doors to his church. According to police, a group of men tried to steal his truck and Longino was shot during the incident.

National Baptist Convention President Jerry Young hopes some good can come out of the tragedy.

“As horrible as it is, as tragic as it is the word of God says that all things even the ugly things even the bad things the sour things all things God somehow is working behind the scenes to turn it into our good,” Young said.

The convention runs through the end of the week.
