A Mississippi city looking to get some extra help from storm damage is out of luck, officials say state and federal funding will not be available for Tupelo residents hit by a tornado.
Victims of an EF-2 tornado won’t receive funding from the state or federal emergency management agencies.
A tornado with winds of 115 miles per hour hit Pontotoc County last week, passing through parts of Lee County and Tupelo. Officials say the damage isn’t considered a disaster.
According to MEMA, 3 homes in Tupelo were destroyed, 7 had major damage and 27 had minor damage. Residents at an assisted living center near the city had to be evacuated during the storm. Their facility was also damaged. They are now living in a nearby hotel while repairs are being made.
