More children across the United States have been diagnosed with a polio-like paralyzing illness. Acute Flaccid Myelitis(AFM) has been diagnosed in 16 more children.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention released its latest numbers on Monday, bringing the total to 106 confirmed cases in 29 states in 2018.
According to the Mississippi State Department of Health’s website, the state has one confirmed case of AFM this year. Six cases were reported in 2016.
The cause of AFT is not known at this time. There is no cure, and there is no vaccine for the illness.
