Pedestrian hit and killed

Local News

Around 5:30 a.m. a pedestrian was hit and killed at the busy intersection of Siwell Road and Byram Drive.

According to a Hinds County coroner, the pedestrian has been identified as 36-year-old Tiffany Harris.

According to the Byram police, a man driving a car, plowed into the woman as she was either jogging or walking along the road.

The man’s car lost control and traveled a far distance before stopping in a nearby parking lot.

People in the neighborhood believe the woman frequently jogged the area.

One jogger had a message for drivers who travel down roads with pedestrians.

Tim Burnett says, “I don’t know how many times I’ve had to move over because people are texting while driving and not watching. Our police department does a great job patrolling. I’m not criticizing Byram PD but people need to do a better job watching out for pedestrians, especially joggers.”

BPD says they are still investigating what exactly happened to cause the accident.

Speed could have been a factor.

Byram police say they will also perform a toxicology report.
