Rankin County has some new and exciting developments at the animal shelter.
There are new innovative tools to transport animals. The Rankin County Animal Shelter received two new trailers. They hold up to 12 dogs a piece and the trailers include a-c and heat.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey actually purchased the trailers from the MS Office of Surplus Property for $2,500 each. They were paid for with drug seized funds. One will be used for the K-9 unit within the county. The other for the rescue dogs at the shelter. Officials say most of the animals at the shelter have been rescued from really bad situations.
Sheriff Bailey tells us sometimes many dogs need to be rescued at once, so this new trailer will come in handy.
“Most of the guys in animal control can only carry one or two animals in their vehicle. it’s been numerous times where we had an investigation on dog fighting or multiple animals needing to be rescued. where we had to rescue a lot of them so.”
The Rankin County Animal Shelter has been serving the county for nearly 20 years.
