The number of measles cases in the United States is approaching a record.
In just one week, 90 new measles cases were reported in the U.S.
The epidemic is not just in the United States.
More than 500 measles cases were reported in 2019.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, that is the second-highest number for the United States in 25 years.
This is only the fourth month of the year.
The World Health Organization reported there were more than 100,000 measles cases worldwide for the first three months of 2019.
The number is up nearly three hundred percent from the same period last year.
Measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in the year 2000. It will not change unless the disease is continuously transmitted for longer than 12 months.
No cases have been reported in Mississippi.
