Storms devastate parts of Morton; Mississippi cleans up

The National Weather Service survey team says the damage in Morton is consistent with an EF-2 tornado with sustained winds of 132 mph.

Storms ripped through Mississippi Thursday, leaving widespread damage throughout the state. 

A number of homes were destroyed in Morton, Mississippi. The National Weather Service believes multiple tornadoes touched down in Mississippi; however, they won’t know for certain until they have a chance to survey the damage.

Damage was reported in at least 24 of the state’s 82 counties. Two people were killed.
