JACKSON, Miss.(WJTV) – Only 10 days left until Senate candidate Mike Espy and Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith face off for the senate seat.
On Saturday, California U.S. Senator Kamala Harris joined Espy at the Hilton Garden Inn to speak to over 100 women about issues.
The two talked to voters about the need for better health care in Mississippi and equal pay for women.
Senator Harris explained Espy is the right person to move Mississippi in the right direction.
“There’s a clear difference between the two candidates in this race. Mike Espy knows that pre-existing conditions have been the reason that people have not historically had access to health care,” Sen. Harris said.
WJTV 12’s Lanaya Lewis questioned Espy about having Sen. Harris alongside his campaign. She asked with many people already labeling him a “far left liberal,” will Sen. Harris hinder his votes at the polls?
He responded, “We may not always vote alike, or similarly… she knows that, I know that as well… but there are common core values that we believe in, promoting education, promoting health care, making sure that students don’t leave school with inordinate debt.”
Senator Harris also addressed the controversial videos of Sen. Hyde-Smith circulating on the web. She explained, it’s time to have people in the senate with higher values for the American people.
“I think that people are fed up with and really just tired of supposed leaders who lead by trying to sew hate and division among us. What we want are leaders who bring us together as country.”
Espy and Sen. Hyde Smith will debate on November 20, with a runoff election following on November 27.
