The Vicksburg Police Dept. says they’re bringing on seven new officers.
The department says four of the new officers will be part-time and the others will be full-time.
Search for the part-time officers began just over a month ago.
Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore says nearly 60 applications had been accepted.
Moore expects to have all six new officers ready to “hit the ground running” by Black Friday.
“It means a lot [to have] more officers on the street that can come in and know they have extra officers to help them out and like I said, this is perfect timing because of the holiday season,” Moore said.
“It’s going to be a lot of traffic, a lot of people on the street, so the more officers on the street, the better.”
The announcement of more police protection comes days after the city installed additional surveillance cameras.
The new police are being sworn in Wednesday at Vicksburg City Hall.
