JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV)- Lynn Fitch will become the next Attorney General of Mississippi.
Fitch also becomes the first woman in state history to serve as Attorney General, and the first non-Democrat to serve in that capacity since 1878.
She won the popular vote right before 10:00 P.M. taking 58.5% of the vote over her opponent Democrat Jennifer Riley Collins.
Fitch previously served as Mississippi State Treasurer for eight years and was also the first Republican woman to hold that title.
Fitch also received a supportive visit by Governor Phil Bryant who’s endorsed her from the beginning and he believed Fitch will take strong actions against the nation’s opioid crisis, drug smuggling, and human trafficking.
