Man pleads guilty to child desertion

JACKSON, MS – According to Attorney General Jim Hood, a Richland resident pleaded guilty to child desertion.

According to an official release, Joe Glen Tharp Sr., 36, “admitted to failing to pay $34,000 in child support and was sentenced to five years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with five years suspended on supervised probation” until he can pay.

Attorney General Jim Hood said of the case:

“We thank Judge Emfinger for reminding our deadbeat parents  that there is no hiding place from their obligations in Mississippi, ”
