Melanie Dotson is a professional digital journalist here at WJTV 12 where she pulls down barriers to get you answers that matter.
While attending Brandon High School, Melanie discovered her gift for storytelling through theatre. Years later, her educational journey allowed her to make her passion her daily reality.
Melanie joined the WJTV12 news team in April of 2016.
Before coming to Jackson, she began her professional career at WXVT-TV in Greenville, MS. While at the CBS affiliate, she was the weekend anchor and producer and weekday reporter.
Ms. Dotson earned her B.A. in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Radio and Television Broadcasting from Tougaloo College in May of 2015. During her college matriculation, Melanie was a multimedia journalist for the campus-based television network, Eagle Eye News, and a print journalist for The Harambee, the campus’ newspaper.
In her spare time, Melanie enjoys reading history novels, studying film, and spending quiet hours at the Reservoir.
Melanie is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
