Yazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a brazen thief who robbed a dispatcher at gunpoint inside the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
People call 911 dispatchers everyday when they’re in a trouble, but late Wednesday night a Yazoo County dispatcher was the one having to call for help.
“Somewhere around 11:30 or midnight we received a call from dispatch that she had just been robbed,” Investigator Terry Gann said.
A spokesperson with the sheriff’s department says they aren’t sure how the suspect got into the building but they do know that when he left he came right out these front doors and ran straight for the lawn.
“Once he got in here he in to the dispatch area was able to stay hunkered down behind the desk to say hunkered down low behind the desk and came around the desk and stuck a gun to her neck and told her to give him the money,” Gann explained.
Gann says the man waited until the other dispatcher went to the bathroom to attack his victim.
“Somebody knew she had a lot of money in her purse, she was fixing to pay her bills,” Gann said.
While these deputies are used to responding to crime, they never thought crime would come straight to them.
“At first just shock and then pure anger, that now, that’s family, when you go messing with our dispatchers,” he explained.
Thankfully the dispatcher wasn’t hurt but she was shaken up. Gann says they’re putting more safety precautions into place outside of the sheriff’s office and inside.
Gann says they’re reviewing surveillance footage and working to find the suspect.
