Bond set at $1M for Brandon kidnapping suspect; His mom charged with accessory

A judge set bond for a Brandon kidnapping suspect at $1 million.

Derrick Boyd is charged with felony kidnapping and felony burglary. According to investigators, the 31-year-old forced his way into a home on West Jasper Street Saturday morning and held his estranged girlfriend at gunpoint.

He appeared before a judge Monday morning for his initial court appearance.

His mother, Phyllis Boyd, is charged with accessory after the fact for kidnapping and burglary. Her bond was initially set for $1 million but was reduced to $500, 000 because she doesn’t have a criminal history.

Boyd said his mother didn’t have anything to do with the incident. He says his mistakes have stressed out his mother.

UPDATE: 03/27/2017 9:06am Brandon Police Chief William Thompson says kidnapping suspect Derrick Boyd is in police custody at this time.  A U.S. Marshal was injured during the capture.

Ina written release Chief Thompson says that Derrick Boyd was taken in custody in the Hiawatha/Gallatin Street area of Jackson, Mississippi.  The suspect, he says, ran from police.  It was during the apprehension that the U.S. Marshall was hurt.  He is currently being treated at a local hospital and was last listed in stable condition.

Boyd is being held at the Rankin County Jail.  Chief Thompson says that Boy’s initial court appearance will be this afternoon.  “Boyd is not cooperating with investigators,” he says, “His demeanor can best be described as combative.”

No additional information on the injured U.S. Marshal is available at this time.

UPDATE: Brandon Police Chief William Thompson confirms to WJTV that Sheaquiryona Boyd has been found safe. We’re told that Boyd showed up at the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office. We’re told she doesn’t appear to have any injuries. Police are still looking for Derrick Boyd.

BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Brandon Police are searching for a kidnapping suspect.

According to investigators, they say 31-year-old Derrick Boyd forced his way into a home on West Jasper Street around 7:00 Saturday morning.

We’re told Derrick took his estranged girlfriend, holding her at gunpoint.

Brandon Police continue to search for Derrick and the victim, Sheaquiryona Boyd.

Derrick has dread locks and multiple tattoos including a cross between his eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with white markings on the sleeves and black pants.

Sheaquiryona, 21, is 5’2” tall, and weighs approximately 150 lbs.

Derrick is to be considered armed and dangerous.
