JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Gov. Phil Bryant and Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann have signed the documents to appoint Cindy Hyde-Smith to become a U.S. Senator.

Bryant tweeted a photo that shows him with Hosemann Sunday night signing the paperwork

Last month, Thad Cochran announced that he would be resigning from the position in April. He named health issues as the reason he stepped down.

He is the tenth-longest serving Senator in U.S. history.

Byrant announced last month Hyde-Smith as his choice to fill Cochran’s seat. He said she will be officially sworn in when the Senate returns next week.
