When something bad happens, law enforcement officers are challenged to help families, especially little ones, deal with the situation. With that in mind, meet the ‘Buddy Bear’.

Local law firm, Richard Schwartz & Associates, doled out the bears to departments around the Metro area.

The firm regularly partners with law enforcement on charitable projects.

Together, they hope the bears will help comfort children who have been traumatized in some way.

Officers like Major Pete Luke with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, say something like this can go a long way toward helping a child, “Any officer will tell you, protecting a child is priority number one. Until family arrives, officers try to protect and comfort a child.”
