Jackson Fire Department trains for real life situations

Metro

What happens when firefighters encounter liquefied petroleum gas? Well, the Jackson fire department practiced that very scenario during a drill at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.

WJTV 12’s Margaret-Ann Carter watched the demonstration preparation for the real deal.

You do not want to try this at home or anywhere other than right here at the state fairgrounds with Jackson Firefighters. The fire drill will help prepare firefighters for live fire situations which may be encountered during transportation of LPG, or fire incidents at fixed facilities where LPG may be stored.

Responding to propane gas fires are actually a lot more common than you would think.  Just two weeks ago JFD responded to a bbq fire and had to use this training.

Twenty-eight Jackson Fire Department units will participate nightly in the drill for the next few
nights. So if you hear or see something like this at the state fairground don’t be alarmed!
