Metro

In Holmes County a man was shot and killed. Witnesses said the shooting happened outside of a trailer where he did not stay.

The shooting happened in Goodman MS, along Franklin Road.

That’s where witnesses said Samuel Brooks lost his life. Some of his relatives said they were still in shock.

Ashley Beere, the cousin of Sam Brooks said “I got a call. My people called me and told me my cousin was shot. That he was shot over here in the yard. “

Family members said they were still puzzled as to what happened Sunday afternoon.

It’s when they said they received word Samuel Brooks had been shot and killed at this home in Holmes County.

Relatives and neighbors said they did not see the shooting, but said Brooks, who was also the son of a correctional officer in the county was a good person who never got in trouble.

Beere said “He was a good person. My cousin Samuel Brooks. He was good as gold. We come from a good family. A good loving and caring family. A friendly family. We help anybody. He don’t deserve that. He didn’t deserve that. “

Beere said Brooks did not stay at the trailer where he was shot. Adding more suspicion to the murder. For now relatives and neighbors said they were anxious to find out who would have killed the Holmes County native.

Sheriff Willie March with Holmes County did confirm Sam Brooks’ father works as a correctional officer in Holmes County.

At this time the investigation is being taken over by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.
