Ridgeland firefighters injured while fighting apartment blaze

RIDGELAND, Miss (WJTV) -  Two Ridgeland firefighters are recovering from their injuries after fighting a blaze overnight.

Both the Madison and Ridgeland Fire Departments responded to the blaze at the Sunchase Apartments off of Old Canton Road.

One firefighter twisted and possibly fractured his ankle. Debris fell on the other. He is being checked for bruised ribs.

The fire destroyed an entire building at the complex. Tenants who lived there will have to find a new place to stay. WJTV talked with one newly married couple who says they lost everything.

"It's real. i'm glad we have our life. that's still our stuff. I'm just I had my life, for the most part, you know. she wasn't at home by herself or hurt. so I'm grateful for that," said Joshua McCaskill.

Jasmine McCaskill is still trying to come to grips with the situation.

"I'm just hurt that I no longer have my wedding dress. and our marriage licenses are burnt. and one of my rings got damaged. and i'll never have those things no more."
