PIKE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed one man and injured two others.
The crash happened on I-55 near exit 24 in Pike County around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Troopers said a Dodge Charger was traveling north when it left the road, collided with trees and overturned.
The collision killed the front seat passenger, 19-year-old Sterling Yarbrough of Natchez. According to troopers, Yarbrough was not wearing a seatbelt.
The rear seat passenger, 19-year-old Harrison Tharpe of Brandon, was airlifted to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. The driver, 18-year-old Gabriel Schofield of Natchez, was taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters in Brookhaven.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
