Mississippian accused of trying to join ISIS pleads guilty in court


JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — One of the Mississippians accused of trying to join ISIS pleaded guilty in court Friday.

Muhammad Dakhlalla plead guilty to providing material support to terrorism. He appeared before a federal judge in Aberdeen, Mississippi.

Dakhlalla and his girlfriend Jaelyn Young were arrested back in August 2015 after they allegedly tried to get on a plane at Golden Triangle Regional Airport to go to Syria. Authorities say they contacted undercover federal agents last year, seeking online help in traveling to Syria

Young has not entered a plea in the case. Her trial date is set for June 6.

Following today’s hearing Daklallah remained in federal custody pending his sentencing.

Dakhlalla is facing up to 20 years in prison, $250,000 fines and lifetime probation.
