Neighbor recalls hit and run scene that killed man in wheelchair

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Jackson Police Department is still looking for the driver responsible for a hit and run on Christmas night.

The hit and run happened near the intersection of Prentiss Street.

JPD says so far very few details about the crash have been released.

“I was shook.”

L.C. Johnson describes the scene he saw Friday night as he walked down Grand Avenue.

“I heard a loud boom, looked up and saw the man fly. He was laying in the middle of Prentiss street,” Johnson said.

Johnson was one witness to the hit and run that killed 49-year-old Timothy Ward of Jackson.

Ward was in a wheelchair when the crash happened.

WJTV was told he was a nice guy who often went to this store on Prentiss Street.

Other witnesses tell us that Ward was dragged after the car hit him and that emergency responders worked to revive him at the scene before he was taken to the hospital.

Jackson Police says they don’t have a description of the vehicle that hit ward.

But Johnson says he saw the car.

“It was gray with tinted windows,” Johnson said.

The driver has not surfaced and JPD has no information on the suspect at this time.

“That was just messed up how he didn’t stop and help the man,” Johnson said.

If you know anything about the hit and run, please call the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960 – 1234.
