Officer-involved shooting on Jayne Ave. sends one man to the hospital

Jackson, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police are investigating a Tuesday morning officer-involved shooting.

It happened at the Big Boys Food Mart on Jayne Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

We’re told officers responded to the store because of a disturbance. Commander Tyree Jones with the Jackson Police Department tells us the suspect, Dennis Green, 40, began to throw beer bottles at one of the officers. The officer shot Green multiple times.

We’re told Green was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. He’s currently listed in stable condition. We’re told he could face charges when he’s released from the hospital.

Commander Jones says the officer was not injured during the shooting. We’re told that officer will be placed on administrative leave with pay during the course of the investigation. The findings from that investigation will be presented to a Hinds County Grand Jury.

Police are not releasing the name of the officer at this time.
